It's like the SpongeBob Heropants of the golden age of gaming. They just threw in a new story that seems to take place after the events of the first movie, ok, fine, but this story is as flat as, well, every kids movie-based game back then.
#Dice shrek game movie
With a movie based game, you'd think it'd follow the plot of the movie, right? The first Shrek movie at least had some gamey moments, but either DICE or TDK had a massive brain fart that day and assumed otherwise. Maybe it was a form of epic trolling on TDK's part to make the XBOX look better than it has already? I'm not sure what prompted TDK to produce a version of the game for the GameCube, but I assume it was a misguided attempt to make up for the minimal nature of the original game, and it somehow led to a straight-up port of the game that suffered under the less-powerful GameCube and somehow became worse. Now it's time to go on to the GameCube version. Now, for the past few statements, I was referring to the Shrek game on the XBOX. Since this game and the movie came out in the same year, I'm going to assume this game was rushed while the film it was based on was still relevant. Maybe they felt like shit for jeopardizing a title based on a hot property and resorted to heading much worse Shrek titles to make up for it. Little to none of their games are anything to write home about, this included. They had a strong monopoly on games based on the first Shrek movie until it was mercifully acquired by Activision.
The game was published by TDK Mediactive, one of the former top-US shovelware crankers. With this game, I'd blame the publisher more. However, I'd like to hold the publisher to the same fault as the developer as they have the most authority on the product, based on the budget they provide and whether or not they're the spawn of EA or Activision. Since the Canadian branch was tied to licensed games, I'd like to blame the game on them. There were two versions of DICE back then, one was the original company in Sweden, the other was the now defunct Canadian branch. The game was developed by Digital Illusions CE, now EA DICE. You could say I followed the Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life ideology well before it became popular, but I'd call it a coincidence. I believe I lost the first copy (or it got too damaged to work), the second copy got scratched or warped and I couldn't access most worlds as a result, and it ended at the third. I'm not ashamed to admit it, but I actually owned three copies of the game. As far as my first experiences with the game go, I got stuck on the second world and left it as such, then I got stuck in the fourth world and left it at that, then I pussied out because at the time I was deathly afraid of in-game spiders, then finally I just plowed through the remainder of the game (mind you, when I got older).
I don't remember exactly how I got a hold of Shrek Extra Large, but I'm assuming I merely got it as a gift from my parents. As far as my gaming encounters go, I started off properly with the likes of Super Mario Sunshine, The Simpsons Road Rage and Battle for Bikini Bottom. I enjoyed it like a grand majority of kids did back in the day, and I had no idea it would expand to the lengths it would in later years. I remember watching Shrek when I was a kid. Now I know what you're thinking, why did I start off with nothing but drivel? Well, this ties in to my experience with the following game. A name that was once synonymous with a decent children's film, and is now best associated with memes, memes galore, and that's about it. There was a window for improvement, and it gradually grew overtime. What I mean by that is that developers were still accustomed to the standards of the fifth generation of gaming, hence why we had titles on the PlayStation up to 2002 (and I'm drawing the line there because only those with no shame would ever release PlayStation titles in, say 2004 or 2005 (seriously, one of each exists). so-so launch titles that weren't by the companies marketing the systems.
#Dice shrek game ps2
The first year the GameCube was released, the time the PS2 was gaining more traction, the year the original XBOX (greatest console ever) came out, a time of. It was the rise of the sixth generation of gaming. Let me take you back to 2001, gaming wise. NOTE: I did a review of this game ages ago, but now I decided to re-tackle it, (try) to give it a deeper look.
